 2017 Preview 


       Oak Mountain finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-8 record. With their 3-4 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 7A region three, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Oak Mountain's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hewitt-Trussville by a score of 63-21.

       The defense allowed a team record 370 points last season.

       Since 2010, Oak Mountain has gone a combined 33-41. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 7A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 18 seasons, Oak Mountain has managed to compile a record of 85-103. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 7A and 240th in the AHSAA.

       The Eagles are led by head coach Cris Bell who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 29-25 over the past five seasons at Oak Mountain. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bell.

       Coach Bell's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 29-25 (53.7%).

       The Oak Mountain Eagles will play in Class 7A region three during the 2017 season. The Eagles have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 69-40 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 7A and 11th in the AHSAA.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season.

       The Eagles open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Chelsea on Friday, August 25 at Chelsea High School Football Stadium. Last year the Chelsea Hornets finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 6A region three. The Hornets lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Bessemer City by a score of 31-23.

       Oak Mountain and Chelsea have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 9-3-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2016 with Chelsea winning by a score of 49-33.
